Fun little urban edge mitigation project in Bellingham. Built 150 feet of cedar split-rail fence, Native Growth Protection Area signage, bat box installation, blackberry grubbing, lesser celandine treatment, planted native conifers and shrubs, native grass seeding along the disturbed edges. Should be our last upland planting project of the winter/spring. It's been a great few months: planted about 9000 native plants, moved hundreds of yards of mulch, grubbed all manner of weeds, etc. This crew kicks serious butt and makes it fun to boot. Thanks Calvin, Sean and Breyanna! Now it's time to switch gears from planting trees and get back to stompin' weeds. ... See more

First big planting project of 2021: 1900 native trees, shrubs, ground covers and graminoids into this beast of a stormwater/bioswale system up on Yew Street Hill. Very satisfying to take it from big monocultures of Canada thistle, poison hemlock, reed canarygrass and etc. last June to an almost weed free, thickly mulched, densely planted site in 7 months. ... I’m a Beaver Believer

Are you a beaver believer? I am. But dammit I wish they would leave my young cedars alone. https://sflonews.wordpress.com/2020/08/14/im-a-beaver-believer/
